How Do My Students Upload Images to Their Assignments?

Students can upload images to their assignments in Classwork.com in two different ways:

  • Using the Images tool in the student toolbar
  • Uploading images inside an Open Answer question with Rich Text enabled

Both options allow students to include drawings, photos of handwritten work, or other visual responses in their assignments.

Method 1: Using the Student Toolbar Image Tool

You can allow students to upload images directly onto their activity using the Images tool in the student toolbar.

This option is controlled when creating the assignment.

During Step 3 of 3 in the assignment creation process, go to the Student Tools section and enable the Images option.

When the assignment opens, students will see the Images tool on their toolbar and can upload images anywhere on the activity page.

This option is commonly used when students need to:

  • Upload photos of handwritten work
  • Add diagrams or drawings
  • Show work completed on paper

Method 2: Uploading Images in Open Answer Questions

Students can also upload images inside an Open Answer question when Rich Text is enabled.

This method allows teachers to assign a score or graded value to the student’s response that includes the image.

Students can upload images such as:

  • Handwritten math work
  • Drawings or diagrams
  • Photos of completed work

Because the image is part of the student’s response inside the Open Answer field, teachers can review and score the response directly.

Important: Images must be uploaded into the response field. Images created using the drawing tool cannot currently receive a score.

Which Method Should I Use?

  • Student Toolbar Images allow students to freely place images anywhere on the activity page.
  • Open Answer with Rich Text allows teachers to grade image-based responses.

Teachers often use the Rich Text method when they want students to submit images that will receive a score.
