The Short Answer question is the way to add "Fill in the Blank" questions to your worksheets because the auto-scoring feature and ability to enter answer variations can really save you some time. That is, until a student tells you they should have been scored correctly, but the system didn't give them credit. You pull up their work and, sure enough, they're correct, but answered in a way you didn't anticipate when you wrote the question. We get it! It's hard to think of every way a student can answer a question!

So, we've made it so you don't have to! Now with the "partial match" feature of the Short Answer question type, you can input the minimum amount of text that you want the student to match, and they'll get full credit if they match it, regardless of what else they put in!

And it's easy to use!

How Does It Work?

Let's say your question is "Which National Park in Texas protects the world's most extensive Permian fossil reef?" There might be five or six different variations for how a student might answer that! You used to have to think of them all, and enter a new possible answer for each. With the new feature, though, all you have to enter is the most important part ("Guadalupe"), then tell the system to only match that by checking "Allow partial match in student answer."

Now the system will automatically match student answers like:

• Guadalupe
• Guadalupe National Park
• Guadalupe Mountains Park
• The Guadalupe Mountains National Park
• The Guadalupe Mountains National Park, in Salt Flat, TX

It's pretty magical and will save you a lot of time, which you could use to visit a national park of your own!
