How To Create an Activity from the TEKS Star Question Banks

TEKS Star Question Bank

Classwork Texas Edition includes the TEKS Star question bank, which helps you create interactive, auto-scored activities in just a few clicks.

The TEKS Star question bank includes Math TEKS items for Grades 3 through 8 and Algebra 1. It also includes Texas OER Math content if your organization subscribes to that resource. This article covers the TEKS question bank only.

For Texas OER Math instructions, see: How to Create an Activity from the Texas OER Math Question Bank.

The Big Picture

You will choose the TEKS you want, preview matching questions, and add them to an activity.

  • If you are creating a new activity, each question can be added to its own slide.
  • If you are editing an existing activity, the questions will be inserted after the slide you are currently viewing.

How to Start

You can open TEKS Star in two places.

When creating a new activity, choose the option to build it from the TEKS Star question bank.

When editing an activity, click the TEKS Star button in the editor.

Both options open the TEKS Star Wizard.

Using the TEKS Star Wizard

Select Your Grade Level

The first step is to choose your grade level.

Click a grade level button to continue.

Choose the TEKS Standards

Select the TEKS standards you want to use for the search.

  • Use the checkbox for each standards group to select or clear all standards in that group.

Click Next to continue.

Choose the Question Types to Include

Based on the TEKS you selected, the wizard will show the available question types. Check the types you want to include.

Exclude Already Used Questions

You can choose to hide questions you have already used.

  • In any of my activities: Excludes questions you have used anywhere before.
  • In current activity: Excludes questions already added to the current activity.

Choose How to Generate the Questions

You can either:

  • Select a number of random questions, or
  • Browse all questions that match your criteria

Click the Go! button next to your preferred option.

If You Chose Random Questions

The wizard will show a list of selected questions. You can keep them, replace them, or remove them.

  • Use the refresh icon to swap in a different question with the same TEKS and question type.
  • Use the trash can icon to remove a question from the list.

When you are satisfied, click Add Selected Items.

If You Chose to See All Questions

You can browse all matching questions and select the ones you want to add.

Use the controls at the bottom to move from page to page.

When finished, click Add Selected Items.

Choose Layout Options

Select the question font size and decide whether to place all questions on one slide or use one question per slide.

Add the Questions to Your Activity

Click Add Items to insert the selected questions into your activity.

Preview the Activity

After the questions are added, click the Preview icon to see an approximation of what students will see.

If everything looks good, assign the activity to students and start collecting standards-aligned results.
