Can I Send a Text Box to the Back or Change Layer Order?

Elements in Classwork.com are placed on a single layer. When you add something to your Activity—such as Teacher Text, a colored rectangle, or a Question Type—it is overlayed on top of the content behind it.

Because the layer order cannot be changed, it is not possible to:

  • send an item to the back

  • bring an item to the front

  • move something behind a PDF or image

  • change the stacking order

If you need to replace or cover part of a PDF, you can add a colored rectangle on top of it and then place Teacher Text on top of the rectangle.

Can I Make an Open Answer Box Transparent?

Open Answer boxes always have a white background and cannot be made transparent. They will always appear overlayed on top of the PDF or background.

If you want students to type in a specific location without blocking existing text, you have two options:

Option 1: Move the Open Answer box to a clear area

Place the box beside or below the content rather than directly on top of the PDF.

Option 2: Cover and replace

  1. Add a colored rectangle over the part of the PDF you want to remove.

  2. Add Teacher Text on top of that rectangle with your updated instructions.

  3. Place the Open Answer box below or beside the new directions.

This keeps the layout readable and prevents important content from being hidden.
