How to Prevent Students From Copying and Pasting in Classwork.com

Classwork.com gives you the option to turn off copy and paste for student responses in text-entry question types. This helps discourage copying from outside sources while still allowing students to type their own answers.

Where This Setting Applies

The copy/paste setting controls whether students can paste text into:

  • Open Answer

  • Short Answer

  • Student Text boxes

These are the only question types where students type freely, so the setting affects only those fields.

How to Disable Copy/Paste

On your Create Assignment screen, you’ll see a setting labeled Student can copy and paste text.
Choose Prevent if you want to stop students from pasting text into their written responses.

When this option is turned off, students must type their answers manually — they won’t be able to paste content from sites like Wikipedia or ChatGPT.

Where This Setting Does Not Apply

Copy/paste cannot be disabled for interactive or autograded question types, such as:

  • Multiple Choice

  • Multiselect

  • Hot Text

  • Drag & Drop

  • Match Table Grid

  • Number Line

  • Fraction Models

  • Any tool where students click, select, or interact without typing
